Balustrade

As the title of this piece suggests, Polish artist Monika Sosnowska takes inspiration for her work from architectural elements. She uses building construction materials as artistic media. While minimal in design, Balustrade is complex in concept, especially in conversation with the new architecture of the Welcome Center. The destruction of many buildings in Eastern Europe during World Wars I and II had an influence on the artist’s work. Sosnowska distorts these defunct former building materials to turn them into abstract sculptures.
