Elisabeth Frink is a celebrated British artist who is well known for her figurative work, especially animals. Created as a result of an open commission by Lord McAlpine in 1969, the Mirage I and II figures are based on Frink’s exploration of surrealistic walking bird forms. Originally cast in aluminum and later translated into bronze, the sculptures are a testament to the artist’s interest in forms and texture as well as a creative interpretation of birds.
