Sabre Larch Hill

Trees are integral to David Nash’s repertoire. Although most widely known for those made from felled trees that are carved and frequently charred, Nash also makes sculpture from living trees. Known broadly as “plantings,” works such as Sabre Larch Hill are made with trees planted as saplings, then carefully pruned and manipulated in a specific composition over time. In one of his few public “plantings,” the artist works closely with Meijer Gardens Horticulture and Sculpture staff to realize Sabre Larch Hill in The Richard & Helen DeVos Japanese Garden.
